2003 Gifford Arboretum and Sigma-Xi Lecture

and Art Opening

An interdisciplinary event between the Arboretum and the Art Department,

"Welcome" by Dr. James Wyche

Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, University of Miami

 

Dr. Robin L. Chazdon

Professor of Ecology, University of Connecticut, will speak on

"Tropical Forest Recovery:

Legacies of Human Intervention and

Natural Disturbances"

 

The lecture will be preceeded, at 6:15 PM, by a tour of the Arboretum:

meet across from the corner of Robbia and San Amaro Streets at the Wooden Sign

 

 

Following the lecture, there will be a wine and cheese reception featuring  

an art exhibit

"Regrowth, Renewal and Regeneration"

sculptures and paintings by UM students and local artists

curated by Christine Federighi, Professor, University of Miami

 

 and a book-signing

Foundations of Tropical Forest Biology: Classic Papers with Commentaries

coedited by Robin L. Chazdon and T. C. Whitmore

The lecture, tour and reception are free and open to the public.
