Jasmine and Aaden
Little Jasmine and her brother Aaden were two of the only survivors of a
group of tiny, baby rabbits turned loose in a park on Easter morning. We
know that a local hotel had a special "Easter celebration" for their
guests in which live baby rabbits--too young to leave their mothers--were
given away to children staying at the hotel with their parents. Just what
the hotel personnel thought would become of the rabbits after the kids
finished playing with them is a mystery. But a lifeguard at the hotel
notified us of this horrific ritual a few weeks later. We suspect that
Jazz and Aaden (affectionately known as the "Spuds") were dumped at a park
in South Beach--the scruffy "leftovers" of human ignorance and
carelessness.
Although it is illegal in Florida to sell rabbits younger than 8 weeks of
age, Jazz and Aaden were no more than four weeks of age when they were
dumped. They were found by a park
visitor, who called the House Rabbit Society. When we took them in, they
were dehydrated and covered with fur mites (which is why Jasmine's fur is
falling out).
Despite their rough start, the babies were immediately interested in their
surroundings. After veterinary treatment and a few weeks of good food and
exercise, they began to recover.
Happily for Jazz and Aaden, a wonderful couple living in Green Bay, WI saw
their picture on our web site and decided they couldn't live without them.
The Spudlings traveled in cabin on American Airlines to meet their new
parents and resident rabbit, Rosie. The three are now a happy trio.
Jasmine and Aaden will never have to worry about being dumped or homeless
again...
