State 1 -  noncyclic electron flow     in sunlight     PSI & PSII both activated within             stacked grana     LHCII-complexed w PSII     thus PSII & PSI function in             parallel with linear e- flow             makes ATP & NADPH.     State 2 -  cyclic electron flow     light excitation unbalanced     LHCII is phosphorylated     LHCII dissocaites from PSII     LHCII diffuses to intergranal area             & associates w PSI & LHCI             thus light favors PSI &             cyclic electron flow                       ATP & no NADPH
